About the Artist

My Story

Background you should know.

Ms. Winter was born in Hungary, came to the United States as a refugee. She has been involved in artwork as soon as her circumstances permitted. She earnead a Certificate of Accomplishment from Art Instruction Inc., Minneapolis. Earned a diploma from the School of Modern Photography (Little Falls, N.J.) in 1979. While she was raising her two children, attended workshops in drawing, pastel and oil painting in Montgomery County, Md.

As a photographer she has been active for years at the Silver Spring Camera Club, winning prizes with her fine-arts images. Also worked for the The International Photo Society, where she organized exhibits.

In the mid-eighties she returned to her first love: fine arts. Concentrating mainly on portraiture in pastel and oil, taking occasional commissions, entering juried shows at the Woman's Club of Chevy Chase, winning prizes. She was asked to teach art at the senior daycare center in Arlington Co. Va. where she worked for four years. Was honored as an outstanding volunteer. Enjoying the contact with people and passing on what she has learned during her various artistic ventures, Ms. Winter was happy to accept a position at the Friendshp Heights cultural center as an art teacher. For seven years now she has been an instructor of portraiture in pencil and pastel.

She finds that teaching is also a learning experience. "There is tremendeous joy in seeing my students succeed", she says. " Every couple of years we have a Student/Teacher exhibit. One is ongoing this March. All the various classes show one picture. To see the development gives us all a sense of pride".

Ms. Winter continues painting on her own. Had a show of her portraits at the Bethesda Library several years ago, and three years ago a one-woman exhibit at Friendship Heights, called: " Portraits, etc.", comprising sixty pieces of artwork, including photographs.

She has thirty pictures in private collection, including one painting on permanent exhibit at the University of Delaware.

Ms. Winter lives in Bethesda, Md. with her husband, who is an avid listener (and once player) of classical music. It provides a wonderful background for art.

I tried to demonstrate all the above with my pictures on these pages. Hope you will enjoy.
